Resume Writing Tips

Keep in mind that your resume has to go through a screening process which you must pass before getting you to an interview. It is therefore important that the resume design must be professional and appealing to the reader.

  1. The resume must be concise. If possible, try to confine the length to preferably 2 pages.
  2. Organize the information in different sections under appropriate headings and place them in the best order to highlight the applicant's strongest credentials.
  3. Key selling points should be eye-catching and put in the first page.
  4. Place more focus on emphasizing the qualifications, experience, skills, training, and accomplishments that are relevant match to the listed requirements for the job position you apply for.
  5. Avoid long description of the job duties to include every minor detail. Briefly highlight the scope of responsibilities and major accomplishments, if any, for each position.
  6. Arrange work history in reverse chronological order (i.e. start with the most recent employment).
  7. Avoid handwritten resume and use plain language.
  8. No need to include reason for leaving previous employment in the resume. That will be discussed during the interview.
  9. Avoid mentioning hobbies and personal interests.
